Leeds make Calvert-Lewin transfer decision as wage demands revealed

Leeds United have made a Dominic Calvert-Lewin transfer decision after his wage demands have been revealed.

The 28-year-old is currently without a club after he left Everton following the expiration of his contract on 30 June.

Calvert-Lewin has faced various injury problems in recent years, restricting his time on the field at Goodison Park.

The 11-cap England international scored just three league goals in 26 appearances last season, taking his Premier League tally to 57 strikes in 239 outings.

Leeds have been linked with Calvert-Lewin as Daniel Farke looks to add more firepower to his side after securing their return to the top flight.

The Whites have so far made seven new additions, with Anton Stach, Jaka Bijol, Lucas Perri, Sean Longstaff, Gabriel Gudmundsson, Sebastiaan Bornauw and Lukas Nmecha all making the move to Elland Road.

Leeds are believed to have a £150million budget, meaning they have about £80million left to spend after their transfers so far have set them back around £70million.

Chairman Paraag Marathe revealed the West Yorkshire giants will spend everything they can to be competitive in the Premier League next season.

Calvert-Lewin wants £150,000 a week after Leeds talks

Calvert-Lewin’s departure from Everton has seen him linked with various clubs this summer.

Manchester United were considering signing Calvert-Lewin, while Newcastle United have held a long-term interest in acquiring his services.

Leeds appear to have cooled their interest in signing the striker despite his availability on a free transfer.

Speaking on talkSPORT on Wednesday (30 July), journalist Alex Crook revealed the Whites have backed off from a deal after holding talks with Calvert-Lewin.

“I was told that Calvert-Lewin is looking for £150,000 a week, which is why he held talks with Leeds and they backed off.”

It comes after finance expert Stefan Borson told Football Insider he expected Calvert-Lewin would be demanding £150,000 a week to join a new club this summer.

It’s understandable Leeds have decided to pull out of the deal as it would break their current wage structure at Elland Road.

Leeds plot move to sign Everton star

Leeds are hoping to add a new striker to their squad before the new season gets underway.

Farke’s side will host Everton in their opening fixture at Elland Road on 18 August.

Leeds have been linked with Beto this summer despite the forward largely failing to impress for Everton over the past couple of years.

The 27-year-old registered 12 goals and one assist in 35 appearances for the Toffees last season.

However, he is expected to remain with David Moyes’s side following Calvert-Lewin’s exit.
