Being in the Championship, Leeds United can expect to be disappointed 99 times out of 100 when they come up against Premier League opposition in a transfer hunt.

The prospect of featuring in England’s top flight is understandably a much bigger draw than playing in the second tier, not to mention the money on offer is far beyond what the likes of the Whites could offer.

It looked as though the Elland Road outfit were in for another disappointment come the summer after their pursuit of Stevenage’s young defender Ben Wilmot, with the likes of Watford and Tottenham also seeking his signing in what was a massive transfer hunt.

The Sun has claimed that it was the Hornets, over Leeds and the Lilywhites, who had won the fight for the 18-year-old, with a £1.5million fee reported to take him from League Two to the Premier League.

However, Tuesday brought round a stunning claim over the youngster’s future.

Sky Sports claimed via their official Twitter account that Watford had in fact ended their interest in snapping up Wilmot after seeing a £500,000 bid rejected in January, leaving his capture up for grabs once again.

After seeing their hopes of capturing the promising starlet slip through their fingers once already, Leeds have been handed a major lifeline, and they cannot allow themselves to make the same mistake twice.

Wilmot might be young, but his potential is huge, and he could develop into a top talent to help push the club to success in the Championship and eventually into the Premier League.

They are able to offer regular first team action, by no means a guarantee at a top flight side, and for a player who has a bright future ahead of him, that playing time could be crucial.
