Leeds were left rocked after seeing their Premier League promotion bid fail last month, but there must be no time for them to dwell on the crushing blow.

Instead, Leeds must focus on the future, and what they can achieve in the Championship next season.

A top priority will be the club’s business in the summer transfer market, with a number of targets already reportedly linked with a move to Elland Road.

One such name is 23-year-old Hadi Sacko, who has spent the season on loan from Sporting Lisbon. However, Leeds must steer clear of a permanent move for the attacker at all costs this summer.

Portuguese newspaper Record has claimed that Sacko has ‘other proposals in the pipeline’ with Leeds unlikely to trigger a permanent deal, and the Yorkshire club would be right to turn their back.

Over the course of Sacko’s loan spell, he has not been that effective. The winger contributed two goals and four assists from 42 appearances in all competitions, but simply didn’t stand out from the crowd.

He failed to contribute a single goal or assist during the second half of the campaign, hinting that there are much better options out there for Leeds to choose from.

The pick of the bunch in attack this season was undoubtedly Chris Wood, who netted 27 league goals for the club; but his team-mates offered little in front of goal to back him up.

If Leeds are to build upon this season’s efforts next year, they will need to add more goals to their game in other areas of the pitch, and Sacko is not the way forward.

Leeds simply must turn their attention to wingers with a more prolific goalscoring pedigree, and that’s even if they manage to keep hold of Wood.

Added experience could also be of great benefit, with Sacko joining a host of players within the current Leeds squad to have fallen prey to their own inexperience at times this season.

Retaining the services of Garry Monk could be a major factor in attracting the quality of players necessary to give Leeds the edge in next season’s promotion race, and such quality players can be found far beyond Sacko.

In other Leeds transfer news, this senior man is close to a £10.5million move to Italy.
