As the summer draws closer, every Leeds United fan will be hoping that the club can avoid a repeat of the disaster that was last year’s transfer window.
The Whites were right to have expected some success with the arrival of Andrea Radrizzani and Victor Orta signalling a period of change at Elland Road, but things have hardly gone to plan.
The club’s early hopes of a top six finish have been decimated by a terrible run of form which has seen them win just three times since the start of 2018, despite changing Thomas Christiansen for Paul Heckingbottom back in February.
Their disappointing campaign has not been helped by their summer signings failing to live up to expectation, with the likes of Samu Saiz and Ezgjan Alisoki the only ones who can end the campaign with any sort of personal pride.
The goalkeeping situation was perhaps the worst, with Felix Wiedwald and Andy Lonergan both finding themselves usurped by Bailey Peacock-Farrell, a youngster whose own future was uncertain at a point this season, after their dreadful performances,.
However, they can sort out that situation quite simply by pouncing for a man whose future looks to be hanging in the balance.
The Express have claimed on their website that Championship winners Wolves are plotting a sensational £35million move for Stoke City goalkeeper Jack Butland this summer, a move which would almost certainly see John Ruddy replaced as the number one choice between the sticks.
The 31-year-old, 6’3″ colossus has not missed a minute of league action for the Molineux side on their way to the title, and conceded just 36 goals in a league best, but it appears his time as first choice is coming to an end – which is where Leeds must pounce.
The Whites need experience at the back and Ruddy would be the perfect man not only for the first team, but to mentor Peacock-Farrell on his way to becoming a future shot stopping star himself.
In other Leeds United transfer news, the club must fix their mistakes of a year ago by sealing a powerhouse deal.
