Leeds United have placed Brentford captain and defender John Egan on their summer transfer radar, according to a report.
The Yorkshire Evening Post claims that the Whites have been monitoring the 25-year-old Irishman at their Championship rivals, as they look to reinforce their backline.
It is understood that the Yorkshire giants are yet to make an official approach for the centre-back and Swansea City’s Kyle Bartley is their main priority signing this summer to improve the defence.
Football Insider verdict:
Egan is a proven player in England’s second-flight and was an ever-present in the recent season as Brentford finished ninth in the Championship table, nine points better off than Leeds. The no-nonsense centre-back is a strong aerial presence and managed three goals in his 34 appearances recently. He should soon be entering the peak years of his career and could potentially be a a success at Elland Road if given the opportunity, but for now a move seems a long way off. Leeds are still yet to appoint their next manager and in any event it seems like re-signing Bartley after a successful loan spell with the club in the 2016/17 campaign makes more sense. The Whites need to find the perfect partner to play alongside Pontus Jansson next season and can’t hope to compete for a promotion without a dependable centre-back pairing, which gives Bartley the edge after previously starring alongside the Sweden international.
