Leeds are preparing a second bid for FC Twente midfielder Mateusz Klich, according to a report.
Dutch outlet Tubantia claim that the Whites have had an offer turned down by the Dutch club for the 27-year-old.
It is understood that the Yorkshire giants are expected to return in the near future with a second bid for the Poland international.
The report details the central midfielder is “eagerly awaiting” a move for Twente, despite only joining them 12 months ago from German side Kaiserlautern on a free transfer.
Klich is still under contract until 2019 with his parent club, but Leeds are trying to bring him to Elland Road this summer.
The midfielder was an important member in the Twente starting line-up last season and made 30 appearances across all competitions.
He showed his quality going forward by scoring six goals and supplying four assists for a side that finished seventh in the Dutch top flight.
Thomas Christiansen is yet to bring in any new arrivals since his appointment as the Whites manager and it’s unclear whether he wants to strengthen his midfield, with the likes of Ronaldo Vieira, Eunan O’Kane, Liam Bridcutt and Kalvin Phillips currently at his disposal.
Klich would arrive as a very experienced individual who does already have 10 senior international caps for Poland under his belt, but has not featured for his nation since 2014.
Football Insider verdict:
Leeds do need to add some extra quality if they are to compete for promotion next season and the midfield area needs addressing. They were solid in the centre of the park under Monk, but the new boss should aim to help his side be more creative from the midfield. Leeds striker Chris Wood was too heavily relied upon for goals last year and midfielders should be easing the load by chippign in. Klich looks like he would be a great addition if they manage to bring him to Elland Road and has international caps show his pedigree. The central midfielder was performing to a high standard in the Dutch top flight last year and would be a great first signing to the Christiansen era.
