‘Leeds plan to accept Junior Firpo offer after confirmed news’

Leeds United will be open to offers for Junior Firpo ahead of the summer transfer window as they prepare for their return to the Premier League.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that there are concerns about the 28-year-old’s ability to perform at the top level.

Clubs in Spain are believed to be keeping an eye on his situation, while the money raised from his departure would be used to strengthen their squad.

This comes after well-connected former Leeds goalkeeper Paul Robinson told Football Insider that Firpo and Brenden Aaronson will be replaced at Elland Road.

That is despite the left-back having made 34 appearances across all competitions so far this season as a key part of the promotion-winning side.

Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed Leeds want to back Daniel Farke in the transfer market to boost their chances of remaining in the Premier League.

Leeds plan to sell Junior Firpo amid potential squad overhaul

Brown told Football Insider on 15 April that Leeds are planning six new signings as concerns have risen about the level of their current options.

Now, the former scout who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, has insisted Firpo is one of a number of players who could make way.

Firpo is one of the players I hear Leeds would let go,” he told Football Insider.

“He’s proven to be a good option in the Championship, but there are doubts about the step up.

“They’ve got a few players like him there and they’ve got to make decisions about how many of them are good enough to be Premier League players.

“After the season ends, they need to assess their squad and be ruthless in their decisions.

“Players who aren’t going to be good enough will be moved on.

“Firpo may well be one of those.

“That should then bring in funds to replace them with better options, and give them a better chance of staying in the Premier League.

Daniel Farke eyes Illan Meslier replacement at Elland Road

Alongside Firpo, another player Leeds are planning to improve upon this summer is goalkeeper Illan Meslier who has fallen out of favour under Farke.

Brown told Football Insider that Norwich star Angus Gunn is on Leeds’ list of targets as Farke is an admirer of his from their time together at Carrow Road.

However, Leeds will aim for alternative options before making a move for Gunn as they aim to sign a keeper to help them compete in the Premier League.

This comes after Brown told Football Insider in January that Leeds are working on signing a new goalkeeper to replace Meslier, with deals being lined up for the summer.
