Leeds ‘plan to accept Wilfried Gnonto offer’ after Daniel Farke green light

Leeds United are preparing to accept offers for Wilfried Gnonto during the January transfer window if an acceptable offer arrives.

That is according to former Man United and Sunderland chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the 22-year-old is not expected to be part of Daniel Farke‘s long-term plans.

Gnonto suffered an injury earlier this season and was expected to make a swift return, but has failed to work his way back into Farke’s starting XI.

The winger returned for the last 10 minutes during Leeds’ 2-1 defeat against Aston Villa but that has done little to ease doubts about his place in the manager’s long-term vision.

There has been long-term interest in Gnonto since Leeds’ last spell in the Premier League, and should it resurface in January, there could be significant movement.

Leeds United could accept Wilfried Gnonto offer

Brown told Football Insider in January 2025 that Leeds were open to letting Gnonto leave for the right price amid interest from multiple Premier League clubs.

The former scout, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, has now insisted that could be the case again when the mid-season window opens.

“I think Leeds are ready to move him on, yes,” he told Football Insider.

“If they get a decent offer for him in January or at some stage it will be something they look at, because he seems to be out of favour now under Daniel Farke.

“I’ve always thought of him as a 15-minute player, he comes in and gives you a little burst of what he can do, but then you don’t see him for the next 20 minutes.

“He’s got real pace, but he doesn’t show it enough, and he’s never quite shown enough to make him undroppable at Leeds despite a lot of praise for him.

“Gnonto is a talented player, no doubt, but he’s a bit like a few of the players at Leeds where they’re not quite good enough or consistent enough at this level.

“And now from what I’ve seen, it looks like the manager is starting to feel the same.

“He’s not been part of the starting XI, and it seems he’s not going to be part of his plans for the future either, so it would make sense, if there was interest, for them to move him on.”

Daniel Farke facing sack pressure at Leeds

Despite Gnonto seemingly falling out of favour under Farke, there is growing pressure on the manager’s position, and he could soon be playing under a different boss.

Brown told Football Insider on 10 November that Farke could soon be sacked by Leeds, with fans calling for his head after a string of disappointing displays.

The Peacocks have now dropped into the relegation zone after losing five of their last six games, while teams around them continue to pick up points.

Mewanwhile, Football Insider revealed on 16 November that Farke is fighting for his job at Leeds, but he could be sacked before Christmas if their downturn in form continues.

Upcoming fixtures against Man CityChelsea and Liverpool before the end of December have created a worrying situation at Elland Road regarding the boss’ future.
