This is how Leeds players reacted in immediate aftermath of defeat to Burton - journalist

By Alex Stevens

Leeds United’s players were left devastated in the immediate aftermath of their Championship defeat to Burton on Saturday, according to a journalist.

The team’s 2-1 defeat at the Pirelli Stadium left their play-offs hope hanging in the balance as top-six rivals Fulham and Sheffield Wednesday secured victories.

Leeds had gone into the match against relegation strugglers Burton needing a win to keep pace with the teams seeking a place in the play-offs semi-finals.

But they went two goals down through goals from Marvin Sordell and Michael Kightly, and a late strike from Kyle Bartley proved only to be a consolation.

It means seventh-placed Leeds are still stuck on 73 points from 44 league matches, three adrift of sixth-placed Fulham, who also have superior goal difference.

Yorkshire Evening Post correspondent Lee Sobot, who covered the match live for the newspaper, reported on his personal Twitter account how the players looked “emotionally shattered” with “hands on hips all round”.

Sobot, who reports on all Leeds’ matches, said he had “never seen this Leeds side look so dejected leaving the pitch”.

It appears that Leeds will now have to win the final two matches of their league campaign to have any chance of securing a top-six finish.

In other Leeds United team news, the club have done the deal for an out-of-window transfer of a midfield player.
