Leeds promotion rivals react instantly to win over Middlesbrough – ‘It’s over’
Leeds United’s promotion rivals are feeling under major pressure after the Whites’ win against Middlesbrough on Monday night (22 April).
Daniel Farke’s side returned to second place after the 4-3 win at the Riverside Stadium in a huge boost for their promotion hopes.
The victory left Ipswich Town in third place, one point below the Whites with a game in hand, and Southampton six points behind with a game in hand too.
Leicester City remain at the top of the league and have also played one game less than the Yorkshire giants.
Leeds rivals think their promotion chances are ‘over’ after win
However, all three promotion rivals have had inconsistent form in recent weeks that has made fans fearful of resorting to the play-offs – and Leeds’ win has only strengthened their anxiety.
Furthermore, many supporters were furious with Wilfried Gnonto’s 39th-minute goal to make it 3-2 to Leeds, which looked well offside but was not picked up by the officials.
The Foxes have lost two of their last three games, the Saints lost their most recent encounter after a last-gasp winner from Cardiff City and Kieran McKenna’s side have picked up just two points from their last three outings.
The unpredictable second tier has well and truly reached its crunch stage and many believe that the Whites won’t drop any more points in their last two games of the campaign against QPR and Southampton.
Supporters have taken to social media in response to Leeds’ win, and plenty are adamant that their promotion chances are on the brink of being “over”.
