Leeds set to make new move to sign player after £7m deal agreed this year - report
Leeds United are expected to make a new move to sign Swansea City attacker Daniel James amid a growing scramble for his services, according to the Sun.
The newspaper claim the Yorkshire giants face competition from Manchester City to land James, 21, this summer following his eyecatching recent displays for club and country.
The Sun report City and other Premier League clubs have been alerted to James’ potential availability and he is likely to get a top-flight transfer this summer after coming so close to joining Leeds for £7million in January.
Football Insider verdict:
There is growing speculation about the future of James, whose lightning speed and ability to carry the ball forward long distances in the blink of an eye has put Premier League scouts and recruitment chiefs on red alert. With his Swansea contract due to expire in the summer of 2020 and the Welsh club in dire financial straits as they continue to count the cost of relegation last May, it appears increasingly likely they will cash in on the youngster at the end of the season. Do Leeds, who agreed terms with Swansea to sign James in January, when the player arrived at Elland Road, underwent a medical and was all set to sign until the deal collapsed late on deadline day, stand a chance of landing him now the big guns have joined the race? Much depends on whether they start next season still in the Championship, or succeed in securing promotion to the Premier League. Fail to return to the top flight, and they can forget about signing James in the forthcoming window.
