Leeds should use Joel Piroe in player-swap agreement to seal Patrick Agyemang move from Derby

Leeds United should offer Joel Piroe to Derby County if they wish to get a deal over the line to sign Patrick Agyemang this summer.

Piroe has struggled for opportunities at Leeds this season, despite firing them to the top flight last term with 19 league goals to win the Championship golden boot.

The 26-year-old has not started a Premier League match since late August, with one goal in 17 appearances across all competitions so far in 2025-26.

He looks set to leave the club this summer, with the Whites lining up a move to sign Derby striker Agyemang as he impresses during their Championship playoff push.

Considering that a new striker signing is a priority in Leeds’ transfer plans, it would surely make sense to utilise Piroe’s previous impressive second-tier form to get a deal done for the USA international.

Leeds could offer Joel Piroe in swap deal for Patrick Agyemang

Football Insider recently revealed that Leeds are interested in Agyemang but face competition from Crystal Palace to sign him this summer.

The USA striker has scored 10 goals in 35 Championship appearances this season, which are modest stats on the face of it, but a more in-depth look at his performances shows that he has been one of the best in his position in the division so far.

Appearances (starts)35 (32)
Goals10
Assists3
Successful dribbles per 901.27
Shots per 902.77
Duels won per 907.08
Touches in opposition’s box per 906.88
Fouls won per 901.9
Aerial duels %46.7%
Agyemang’s 2025-26 Championship stats

He ranks highly for numerous stats, including duels won, fouls won and touches in the opposition’s box per 90 minutes, and there is the feeling that he has a very high ceiling which is waiting to be unlocked by the right manager and team.

Leeds are tracking his services, but may be put off by Derby’s reported £20million valuation of the 25-year-old, which is where Piroe comes in.

The Rams seem unlikely to seal promotion to the Championship this season, and if they are to lose Agyemang, they will face a tough task in replacing him for next term.

Piroe’s track record of consistent scoring in the second tier would surely mean they are interested in signing him, even if he is not particularly built in the mould of a John Eustace striker.

It remains to be seen if the Suriname international wants to drop into the Championship once more, but the prospect of joining a team that looks destined to be at the right end of the table next term could well appeal to him.

Leeds should use Piroe in a swap deal of sorts to get a move agreed for Agyemang, as a deal looks realistic, and they need a more physical striker to provide competition to Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Patrick Agyemang’s Championship record compared to Joel Piroe

Leeds fans may be surprised to learn of their interest in Agyemang, but he clearly fits the right profile for a striker in Daniel Farke’s current set-up, and they would be buying into his potential to explode and become a regular scorer at the top level.

When it comes to Piroe potentially fitting in at Pride Park, the Rams would surely jump at the chance to have him in their side, even if he is a different type of striker.

Piroe’s 2024-25 Championship 0.4 goals per game record is better than Agyemang’s current 0.3 rate of scoring, while the Leeds man also outperforms him on xG, xA, big chances created and big chances missed.

Agyemang’s second tier record is better when it comes to dribbles, ground and aerial duels won, and fouls won.

It feels like this deal could work for both sides, as Piroe is better-suited to the Championship, while Agyemang’s profile looks set to translate well to top-flight football.
