‘Leeds sources tip signing expectations after Fulham reject huge Rodrigo Muniz bid’

Leeds United have been snubbed by Fulham for striker Rodrigo Muniz, and club sources have indicated their expectations on getting a deal done.

The 2024/25 campaign was of course a memorable one for those connected to the Elland Road club, as they won promotion back to the Premier League as Championship title winners.

Daniel Farke‘s side will of course be looking to put together a squad that can keep them in the top-flight beyond the end of the 2025/26 campaign.

It has already been suggested that Leeds will spend over £100million in the summer transfer window as they attempt to do that.

They have already completed one signing with Lukas Nmecha joining from Wolfsburg on a free transfer on a deal two-year contract.

However, one of the targets they have been tracking since the end of the season now looks to be out of their reach.

Fulham reject bid for Rodrigo Muniz

Earlier this summer, Football Insider reported that Leeds were preparing a bid to sign Muniz this summer, in an attempt to boost their attacking firepower.

However, it now looks as though such a deal will not be happening any time soon, with a new update from The Athletic stating that sources at Elland Road believe other striker targets are more likely to sign than the Brazilian.

That apparently comes after Leeds saw a bid for the 24-year-old worth an initial £26million with a further £6million in add-ons rejected by Fulham earlier in the window.

Muniz is not into the final year of his contract at Craven Cottage, meaning although they have rejected that bid, this summer may still be their last chance to cash in on him.

Leeds United need to sign a striker

Football Insider Verdict

With all six of the teams to have been promoted in the last two seasons having gone straight back down, it is clear that Leeds will need to strengthen considerably if they are to stay up in the Premier League.

Ultimately, a proven goalscorer is going to be key to that, given it will be the goals they score that earn them the wins that will be needed to keep them in the top-flight.

Whether Muniz would have been able to fill that role is another questions altogether, given his form in the Premier League for Marco Silva‘s side over recent years has been rather mixed.

Consequently, it may not be the worst thing for Leeds if they do not sign the Brazilian, if they bring in a more reliable and proven goalscorer at this level instead.

Fulham meanwhile, will be watching to see what other interest might emerge in Muniz this summer, since they surely ought to be open to selling him for the right price given his contract situation.

As a result, Leeds’ belief they will not be signing him this summer, could now open the door for another side to make a move for the 24-year-old.
