Leeds 'taking a hit' to sell Casilla permanently as terms of deal revealed - pundit
Alan Hutton has suggested Leeds United are “taking a hit” to get Kiko Casilla in the shop window at Elche.
The former Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 34-year-old’s temporary exit was a better move for the player than the Yorkshire giants.
As confirmed by Leeds on Monday (July 12th), Casilla has joined Elche on loan for the 2021/22 season.
As detailed by Football Insider on July 10th, the Whites will continue to pay a significant portion of the shot stopper’s £40,000-a-week wages.
Hutton, who spent time on loan at Real Mallorca during his career, suggested Casilla would be thrilled at the prospect of playing regular football.
He claimed, despite the financial hit, the move could help Leeds offload the shot-stopper in the future.

Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “You have to go play football. I don’t think he’s ever going to be the number one there, in my opinion.
“Obviously, from my time in Spain, it was the exact same when I was there. The kind of bottom-tier Spanish teams have no money. The only way it can happen is if the parent club subsidises the wages.
“That was always going to have to happen. It’s probably a better move for the player because he’s getting his wish. He’s getting out there, he’s playing and is on the same wages he would have been on at Leeds.
“For him, it’s a perfect move. Leeds are taking a hit but they’re obviously willing to do it to let him go out. Possibly get him in the shop window for a move in the future.”
Casilla still has two years left on his contract at Elland Road.
He played second fiddle to Illan Meslier last term, with just three Premier League appearances under his belt.
