Charlie Taylor is in a race against time to be fit for Leeds’ Championship showdown against Aston Villa on Thursday night.

Manager Garry Monk revealed on Wednesday afternoon that the left-back will have a late test to assess his fitness for the clash at Villa Park.

Monk ruled midfielder Eunan O’Kane out of the encounter between the two Championship giants but gave a positive update on Chris Wood and Pablo Hernandez.

The attacking pair made their returns as second-half substitutes in Leeds’ 4-1 Boxing Day win at Preston, with Hernandez marking his first appearance since 5 November with the fourth goal.

Wood also featured for the last nine minutes after missing the pre-Christmas win over Brentford with a hamstring problem.

Taylor was replaced by Gaetano Berardi on Monday as the 23-year-old missed a Leeds league match for the first time this season, after starting the previous 22 encounters.
