Leeds tipped to make approach to sign Gallagher after 'amazing' reported update - Whelan

Noel Whelan has tipped Leeds United to make contact with Chelsea regarding a possible deal for Conor Gallagher this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Whites striker claimed the “amazing” 21-year-old would be “a welcome addition” to Marcelo Bielsa’s side next season.

Gallagher is coming to the end of his season-long loan spell at West Brom, during which he has contributed two goals and two assists in 29 appearances.

According to The Sun, Leeds have been tracking the attacking midfielder’s progress closely with an eye to a summer move.

However, it is reported that the England Under-21 international is desperate to break into the first team at his parent club Chelsea and may ignore interest in his signature as a result.

When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on Gallagher as a potential Leeds signing, Whelan said:

“I think we should definitely look at Gallagher and I think there will be enquiries made. I don’t think we should go all in with both feet to get him but we should definitely consider it.

“He is a player with amazing qualities. He is a player who has proven he can handle the Premier League.

“As a team West Brom were simply not good enough but there are players in that team that can deal with the Premier League.

“In a better side Connor Gallagher may stand out. He would be a welcome addition to Leeds.”
