Leeds tipped to repeat ‘unbelievable’ feat – thanks to two ‘wonderful’ players

Leeds can repeat last season’s impressive feat of finishing in the top half of the Premier League once their key players return.

That’s according to former West Ham hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Whites’ form.

Leeds returned to winning ways in the Premier League with a 2-1 win over Norwich on Sunday.

Raphinha and Rodrigo scored either side of Andrew Omobamidele’s header to secure a second league win of the season.

In recent weeks, Marcelo Bielsa has been unable to select some of his more vital players due to an injury crisis at the club.

Luke Ayling and Patrick Bamford, two players who were crucial to Leeds’success last season, have only made 10 league appearances between them during 2021-22.

McAvennie insists Leeds will be able to fire on all cylinders again once players like Bamford return.

“Once Leeds get those players back, they will be fine,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I have always said Leeds are in no danger of going down. Bielsa is too good for that to happen.

“Things can happen that are out of his control, like injuries, but he finds a way.

“Once those big players come back Leeds will be back where they were last season.

“They finished in the top half remember, that was unbelievable.

“Raphinha, Bamford, they are wonderful players. It’s early in the season, I don’t see why they can’t get a top-half finish again once those players are back.”

Raphinha has only missed one game for Leeds this season.

He has so far scored four Premier League goals and earned a first call up to the senior Brazil side.
