Leeds tipped to upgrade Koch after source shares key Orta transfer reveal - pundit
Robin Koch is not good enough to deputise for Kalvin Phillips in the Leeds United midfield, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England forward insisted signing a back up for Phillips will be a top priority for the Yorkshire giants in the summer window.
Football Insider revealed from a Leeds source that Victor Orta is in the process of creating a shortlist of midfield targets who can provide cover and competition for the England international.
Centre-back Koch replaced the injured Phillips in the anchorman role in Leeds’ 2-0 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday.
Marcelo Bielsa praised the German to the Yorkshire Evening Post: “I think the performance of Robin Koch was positive. I think he played well, it was very difficult for anyone to shine according to how the collective play went.”
But Agbonlahor has insisted he will be desperate to get Phillips back.

He told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “I’ve said this a lot. Players are going to get injured, players are going to get suspended, players are going to be ill.
“You can’t rely on only getting a result when Kalvin Phillips is playing. They need to look at that position and bring in somebody else to fit in.
“Look at Aston Villa, they’ve got Douglas Luiz and Marvelous Nakamba. You need more than one player in that position who can do a good job.
“I’m sure with investment, they’ll be looking at somebody else.
“Koch did OK, he didn’t do anything outstanding and it’s hard to compare somebody to Kalvin Phillips, to be honest.
“I’m sure they’d love to get Phillips back in there.”
Koch arrived at Elland Road for a reported £13million fee from SC Freiburg in August 2020.
