Leeds told to accept potential ‘£27m’ Rodrigo bid after reveal in last 24 hours – Mills

Danny Mills has claimed Leeds United should sell Rodrigo if they are able to recoup the £27million fee they paid for him.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Whites and England defender suggested the club would not be “devastated” to lose Rodrigo given his dismal goals and assist record at Elland Road.

Spanish outlet El Nacional reported last Saturday (15 January), the 29-year-old had told Marcelo Bielsa he wants to quit Leeds with Barcelona interested in signing him.

However, Phil Hay of the Athletic reported yesterday (22 January) that Barcelona have not rekindled their interest in the attacker after a failed late-window move in the summer (2021).

Rodrigo became the Yorkshire giants’ club-record signing in August 2020 when he completed a £27million move from Valencia.

He operated as a striker for the La Liga club but has been utilised in a deeper role by Bielsa and has managed just nine goals and two assists in 45 appearances for the club as a result.

Asked whether Leeds should look to offload Rodrigo, Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “If they can get the money back, certainly.

“It was £27million, that’s a lot of money for a player that hasn’t really performed, hasn’t really scored and hasn’t really got too many assists.

“Would you be devastated if you lost him? He’s done OK but I’m pretty sure there are players out there for £25million who have done an awful lot better.”

Rodrigo has just two Premier League goals to his name this term in 14 games.

He is under contract at Elland Road until the summer of 2024.

In other news, a Leeds United employee has issued a ‘£30m’ transfer claim after what he’s heard from Marcelo Bielsa.
