Leeds told to get ‘massive signing done before anyone else – the fans will love him’
Leeds United are set for a busy summer transfer window ahead of their promotion back to the Premier League next season.
Daniel Farke is expected to be backed heavily in the transfer market to give him the best opportunity to lead his side to safety despite his poor record in the top tier.
Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Leeds want to make six new signings ahead of their return to the elite to strongly bolster their squad.
Among those targeted is a new goalkeeper, as well-connected former Leeds goalkeeper Paul Robinson told Football Insider Leeds want to replace Illan Meslier.
Now, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Robinson has urged the club to go and sign Aaron Ramsdale from Southampton following their relegation from the Premier League.
Leeds United backed to complete Aaron Ramsdale signing
Brown told Football Insider on 10 April that Leeds want to sign Ramsdale and have joined the likes of Bournemouth and Newcastle in the race for his signature.
The 26-year-old is keen to remain in the Premier League after the Saints were relegated, and has a £25million release clause in his contract at St Mary’s.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Robinson explained that the deal would be a “massive” one for Leeds, but they will have to move quickly to get ahead of rival clubs interested in his signature.
“One player I want for Leeds is Aaron Ramsdale,” he told Football Insider.
“They need to go out and do it before anyone else.
“Manchester United are said to have an interest in him, and there’s going to be a lot of interest in Aaron Ramsdale this summer.
“Compared to his standards, he’s had a disappointing season, but he’s playing in an awful team.
“Somebody like him is a perfect fit for Leeds.
“The fans would get him and he would get the fans. It just looks right for me.
“Aaron Ramsdale, for me, would be the key signing for Leeds this summer. It would be a massive signing.”
Joel Piroe update emerges as Elland Road priority revealed
Alongside the addition of a new goalkeeper, the Elland Road club are looking to improve their squad in a number of positions in the summer transfer window.
Football Insider revealed on 11 April that Leeds are prioritising the signing of a striker this summer, with a new centre-forward top of their list of options.
Joel Piroe is the Championship’s top scorer this season following a hat-trick in the 6-0 win against Stoke City, but concerns have lingered about his consistency.
This comes after Football Insider revealed that Leeds duo Piroe and Patrick Bamford are not believed to be good enough for the Premier League.
