Leeds told to sign lethal Raphinha ally after £20m bid update - pundit

Leeds United should sign a “proper number nine” before Brenden Aaronson, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker insisted Leeds need to sign a striker who can provide the perfect foil for Raphinha and Jack Harrison.

A club source told Football Insider last Friday (21 January) the Whites have upped their off to RB Salzburg for Aaronson to £20million.

The Yorkshire giants saw their initial £15million bid for the attacking midfielder knocked back by the Austrian outfit.

Marcelo Bielsa revealed on Saturday (22 January), via Leeds Live, he will likely be without Patrick Bamford for their next game as he picked up a knock on the bottom of his foot.

“Leeds need a striker,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“With someone like Bamford looking like he might be now a bit injury prone, you’ve got to bring somebody in. You can’t rely on the likes of Rodrigo.

“You have to bring in another striker and I’m sure Leeds fans will say the same.

“They should be looking at someone like Aaronson because they haven’t really got a number 10 either.

“But they really need a striker who can stand up there, hold the ball up, pop it off to create those quick counter-attacks with Harrison and Raphinha. Someone for Raphinha to pop the ball into and run in behind.

“I feel they need a proper number nine.”

Aaronson has scored three times and provided seven assists in 26 games across all competitions this season.

The 21-year-old is currently on international duty with the USA.
