Leeds transfer news: Pundit drops Dan James claim after deal agreed

Georginio Rutter will be a ‘huge’ loss for Leeds United as he finalises a move to Premier League side Brighton.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, ex-Scotland international Alan Hutton believes that Leeds are losing one of their best players with only a couple of weeks in the transfer window remaining.

Football Insider exclusively revealed (August 15) that Rutter is set to undergo his Brighton medical on Thursday after agreeing to join the club after they triggered his £40million release clause.

United boss Daniel Farke admitted later on Thursday that the striker has cleared out his locker at the club’s training ground and said his goodbyes to teammates and staff.

Rutter initially struggled to make an impact at Leeds but eventually found his feet in the Championship and was second only to Ipswich’s Leif Davis in terms of assists last season, providing 15 in 48 appearances for the club as they made the play-off final.

“Of course, he’s a huge player now”, Hutton told Football Insider.

“I factor into that players like Dan James, I know sometimes you look at him and he’s amazing and sometimes you want him to do more.

“Gnonto on the other side, is he going to be staying or is he going to be leaving? He’s always a constant threat.

“When you look at their game against Portsmouth, they’ll be disappointed with the goals, especially the second one, (Illan) Meslier got a hand to it but it still went in.

“But they created a load of chances, they hit the woodwork three times before they eventually scored the goal.

“They’re still more than capable, they still have a lot of firepower even when you look at the bench.

“(Joel) Piroe, these kind of guys that can come on, so it’s not all doom and gloom for Leeds, that’s just the Championship for you, it’s crazy.

“A 3-3 draw and they could have probably scored more. I think they’ll take the positives out of it and move on.”
