Wolves hijack Leeds bid to sign 25-year-old as talks scheduled - report

By Harry Sykes

Aston Villa and Wolves are ready to hijack Leeds United’s bid to sign striker Pierre-Michel Lasogga by Thursday, according to a report.

Football site TeamTalk claim Lasogga has jetted into England to hold talks not only with the Yorkshire giants but also with the Midlands duo.

Hamburg are keen to sell the 25-year-old and have given him permission to discuss a move to the Championship after leaving him out of their squad at the weekend.

Lassoga has been strongly linked with Leeds for most of the last month and the departure of Chris Wood to Burnley for £15million last week has now seemingly opened the door for him to move to a club where he would have hopes of being the first-choice striker.

Former Germany Under-21 international Lasogga barely started a game for HSV last term, scoring just twice in 22 appearances across all competitions after being named in the starting line-up just six times.

He has been on the books at Hamburg for four years after he signed on an initial loan deal in 2013 before earning a five-year contract a 12 months later.

Football Insider Verdict

Leeds have already done a really good job at strengthening their squad this summer and they looked like a good bet to be in the battle for promotion this season. However with Chris Wood’s sale, it seems like their chances have taken a bit of a blow. The challenge for Leeds is to spend the Wood money wisely and make sure they replace the goals that he can score. Lasogga doesn’t appear that he would fit that category, having barely made an impact in the Bundesliga since he signed for HSV in 2013. Leeds already have a good squad in other areas so they should just look to reinvest all that money in quality, rather than quantity. Their squad is already quite big and that could prove to be a problem down the line.
