Leeds United £15m clauses could plunge club into points deduction trouble – sources
Promotion bonuses attached to first-team contracts will put Leeds United on the brink of breaching Profit and Sustainability Rules if they are triggered this summer, sources have told Football Insider.
The Yorkshire club are in the fight for promotion this season with Daniel Farke’s side currently third in the table with three games remaining.
As revealed by Football Insider, promotion this season would trigger £15million worth of promotion bonuses included in first-team contracts.
The bonuses will be included in the club’s PSR calculations for the 2023-24 accounts if paid before the June 30 cut-off date.
Leeds have comfortably complied with PSR this season despite suffering a loss of £34million in their 2022-23 accounts.
Leeds United £15m clauses could spiral into points deduction
However, Leeds are only allowed to lose a maximum of £83million over three years ending in the 2023-24 financial period due to their one-year stint in the Championship.
After losses of £37million in 2021-22, the club cannot afford another year of heavy losses or they face a potential points deduction for breaching financial regulations.
When Leeds were last promoted in 2020, they suffered a loss of £66million.

Therefore, Leeds could be forced to balance their books over the summer to counteract the money spent on promotion bonuses.
Football Insider revealed on Friday (12 April) that Leeds will be forced to sell star players to avoid future financial breaches if they are promoted.
