Leeds United will have been delighted to see their transfer target Patrick Agyemang find the net for the USA in their 5-2 defeat to Belgium on Saturday night.

The Derby County striker came off the bench to net a consolation goal for Mauricio Pochettino’s side in the 87th minute, as he caught the eye during his 19-minute cameo.

The 25-year-old has now struck six goals for his country from just 13 senior caps, and he has also hit the headlines with 10 goals for Derby in the Championship this season.

Agyemang’s form has seen the likes of Leeds and Crystal Palace sit up and take notice ahead of the summer transfer window, and his latest display on the international stage was yet another tick against his name.

Leeds’ transfer plans are set to see them target the addition of at least one new striker ahead of next season, and it is surely a no-brainer for them to move for Agyemang after another round of rave reviews from the American media.

Football Insider revealed earlier in March that Leeds are still interested in signing Agyemang this summer, having previously been linked with a move for him during the winter window.

The Whites will be paying close attention to the frontman’s displays, and they will surely be licking their lips after the impact that he made on Saturday night.

Agyemang netted with a calm first-time finish after an error from Youri Tielemans, but his whole performance drew plenty of positive attention.

The Derby star won 100 per cent of his aerial duels after being introduced from the bench in the 71st minute, while also displaying his clinical nature by scoring with his only effort at goal.

His display has been hailed by the American media in the aftermath of the game, with GOAL handing him an 8/10 match rating and labelling it as a “statement performance.”

ESPN also praised the former Charlotte FC man, as they noted that he looked “hungry” for goals from the moment that he came onto the pitch.

Those reviews will be music to the ears of Leeds and Daniel Farke, who seem to be getting stronger evidence that Agyemang would be a good buy with every passing week.

He looks set to be part of Pochettino’s squad for this summer’s World Cup tournament, and it is surely now a straightforward decision for the Whites to bring him to the Premier League next term.

How much would Agyemang cost?

Football Insider revealed back in January that Derby value Agyemang at around the £20million mark, and they are likely to stick to that valuation to try and fend off summer interest.

The Rams have little intention of trying to sell their star man, but with the lure of the Premier League likely to be on the table, it may ultimately suit them to cash in if the player himself wants to move.

Leeds could see their coffers boosted if they can secure their top-flight status for another season in the coming weeks, and a striker is towards the top of their shopping list to ensure they can consolidate their position again next term.

Agyemang has been one of the Championship’s standout performers so far this season, and he looks like a player who has all the attributes to be able to step up to the top level effectively.

It is unlikely to be a cheap deal for Farke and Co. to pull off this summer, but it is one that they must surely be looking to strike regardless.
