Revealed: Leeds agree terms of new deal after first teamers Wowed playing v him

Leeds United have tied Oliver Casey to a long-term contract after he blew away the club’s first-team stars at Thorp Arch.

United announced on Tuesday the defender, 19, has put pen to paper on a three-year deal ahead of his previous agreement expiring at the end of the season.

A Leeds source has told Football Insider that Casey has secured a pay hike in what is his second professional contract with the club.

Casey was promoted to the first team earlier this season after some impressive displays not only for the Under-23s but also in senior training sessions at Thorp Arch.

Top stars made it clear to manager Marcelo Bielsa they rated the teenager as a top talent capable of playing in the Championship.

Casey made his senior debut in December and has subsequently been on the bench for 10 Championship matches as well as one in the FA Cup.

Primarily a centre-back, the youngster can, like loan star Ben White, also play in a defensive midfield role.

He has won praise for Bielsa, who has sanctioned the new contract.

It replaces Casey’s previous deal, the first he signed as a professional aged 17 in November 2018.

That was due to originally expire at the end of June, before it was extended until the end of this season.
