‘Leeds United are in fear’ after ‘huge’ Georginio Rutter injury update – pundit

Leeds United will be in “fear” over Georginio Rutter’s hernia injury.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Rangers and Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton claimed that the forward’s setback will not keep him out for a long time, but worried that he could miss some upcoming fixtures.

Rutter was forced to withdraw from France’s under-21 squad and is set to undergo surgery, with the club revealing that he could be back in contention 10 days afterwards.

This could see him miss the Whites’ first game back after the international break – their Vicarage Road showdown against Watford on 29 March.

Georginio Rutter has been “huge” for Leeds United

Hutton stated that he did not want to see Rutter, who has been “huge” for Daniel Farke’s side, miss any action in the club’s crucial run-in.

“I worry he might miss the odd game,” he told Football Insider.

“I’ve been through [a hernia operation] myself, but I only missed two weeks of football.

“Operations like that are night and day to what they used to be and the turnaround could be quite quick.

“But there will be fear at Leeds.

“Rutter is a top player for them and he’s one of their top guys.

“They have a top squad, but they won’t want to miss him for any length of time now that they’re in the business end of the season.

“They want to continue their form and Rutter has been a huge part of it.

“But it’s not the worst injury he could have picked up.”
