Leeds United backed to complete multiple more signings after Sky update – pundit

Kevin Campbell has suggested Leeds United will continue spending in the transfer market this summer after selling Raphinha to Barcelona.

The former Everton striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the Whites must use the money raised to “refurbish” their squad before the window shuts on September 1.

As reported by The Athletic’s Phil Hay (16 July), Leeds will invest the funds from the 25-year-old’s sale to sign a new forward, but could also be used to bring in a new left-back.

Charles de Ketelaere and Arnaud Kalimuendo are said to be among their top striker targets.

As reported by Sky Sports (15 July), Leeds and Barcelona agreed an initial fee of £49million for Raphinha, which could rise to £55million with add-ons.

Campbell insisted Leeds’ squad still needs bolstering ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

He suggested Raphinha’s exit could allow the Whites to pull the trigger in the transfer window.

Campbell told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury“I think, of all the teams who came in for him, everybody knew he wanted to go to Barcelona.

“Leeds have done the right thing. They could have held out for a bit more but they still have refurbishing to do of their squad.

“They needed to get the money in. The player’s happy, the club’s happy and it makes the world go round, doesn’t it? Fair play to Raphinha, he’s stuck out, he’s held out for his dream move and he’s got it.”

Leeds already have six new faces through the door at Elland Road.

However, they have also lost homegrown hero Kalvin Phillips, who has signed for Manchester City.
