Leeds United backed to sign ‘big players’ as duo set to leave – expert
Leeds United can lose Crysencio Summerville and Wilfried Gnonto and still earn promotion, says Paul Robinson.
Former Whites goalkeeper Robinson, who is well connected at his former club, speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, said Leeds should still be promotion contenders if they keep the “nucleus” of their squad intact.
Alan Hutton exclusively told Football Insider [12 June] that he expects Summerville to leave Elland Road this summer for a fee of around £30m, with several clubs from the Premier League interested in the Dutchman.
Leeds are looking to offload one or two of the squad’s star performers this summer in order to meet financial criteria, with both players keen on a move.
Leeds United can earn promotion without star men – Robinson
Ex-‘keeper Robinson is of the belief that the likes of Summerville and Gnonto can be sold with Leeds United still mounting a serious promotion challenge, with the overall spine of Daniel Farke’s squad more important than individuals.
“First of all, I’m not worried – the recruitment will be there,” Robinson began.
“Leeds United are a massive club and always will be, and they will always have that draw to attract big players. They are a club followed all over the world.
“If they can keep that nucleus of the squad – the likes of Illan Meslier, Archie Gray and Pascal Struijk – then I can they can afford to let one or two go.

“If Leeds lose a Gnonto and a Summerville, or maybe one of those with Rutter or Piroe maybe, they’ll still have a real good chance of going up.
“The manager needs to be able to keep that nucleus of the squad and add a bit more flesh on the bones.”
In other news, Leeds United fans are excited by a potential Summerville replacement.
