Leeds United backed to sign 'brilliant' Charles De Ketelaere after £34m update - pundit

Leeds United will make an offer for Club Brugge striker Charles De Ketelaere if Raphinha is sold.

That’s according to ex-Whites stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about his former side’s transfer plans.

As per Belgian journalist Alexandre Braeckman (24 June) Leeds are considering the possibility of making a €40million (£34million) offer to sign De Ketelaere, 21.

The hitman scored 18 goals in 49 total appearances during the 2021-22 season and already has eight caps for his country.

Kenny claims the highly-rated youngster could arrive at Elland Road this summer but only if Raphinha leaves.

“Leeds have been crying out for a striker for a long time,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I think I spent most of last season saying they needed to bring in some backup for Bamford and it very nearly cost them their place in the Premier League.

“This guy sounds like a brilliant prospect, 18 goals last season. Selling Raphinha, as much as the club won’t want to do it, it does give them the scope to bring in someone like this.

“It’s a key position they need to sort out this summer and I imagine he won’t come cheap.

“So I wouldn’t be surprised to see Leeds move for him once Raphinha goes.”

As per Sky Sports Transfer Centre (23 June 10:38), Spurs are intensifying their interest in Raphinha, 25, and Leeds are bracing themselves for a bid.

The Athletic reported on Wednesday (22 June) that Leeds have already rejected an opening offer from Arsenal that falls well below the club’s valuation.
