Leeds United backed to sign Patrick Bamford ally amid journalist's double transfer claim - pundit

Alan Hutton has backed Leeds United to sign a new senior striker during the January transfer window.

The former Scotland international, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the lack of centre-forward options has been a “problem” for the Yorkshire giants since Marcelo Bielsa’s time in charge.

As quoted by GiveMeSport, journalist Dean Jones claimed Leeds are looking to bring in two “different sorts of attackers” during the winter window.

Jesse Marsch has had to rely heavily on Rodrigo to lead the line this term, with Patrick Bamford plagued by injury and fitness issues.

While Hutton backed the English hitman to get back to form, he tipped Leeds to strengthen up front in January.

“He’s (Bamford) definitely still got something to offer,” Hutton told Football Insider.

“I don’t think they’d want to cut ties with him but I’ve been saying this for a long time now, it’s been a problem for them.

“Even under Bielsa, they had opportunities in previous transfer windows to bring in a striker, competition, somebody to push Bamford. They never did it for whatever reason.

“They’re still in the same situation. Bamford’s been unlucky in terms of injuries and they’ve not really had that guy to come in and fill that void.

“They still need to try and get someone. I think it’s always hard to bring a top striker in during January but it’s definitely a position they need to bring someone in.”

Bamford, 29, has played 10 times for Leeds this season but is yet to find the back of the net.

His last goal came against Brentford in December 2021.
