Gabby Agbonlahor has insisted Helder Costa will be out of the Leeds United starting XI when Raphinha returns to full fitness.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England striker claimed Costa blew his chance to impress Marcelo Bielsa in the Whites’ 1-1 draw with Liverpool.
The 27-year-old kept his place in the starting XI after Raphinha was ruled out with a dead leg he picked up against Manchester City.
However, he won none of his five attacking duels and completed zero of his attempted dribbles, according to Wyscout.
Costa was eventually replaced by Ian Poveda after 67 minutes before the Yorkshire giants scored their vital equaliser in the closing stages.
The Athletic‘s Phil Hay reports Raphinha has a “decent chance” of returning for the visit of Manchester United this weekend.
Asked who Marcelo Bielsa would make way when the Brazilian is fully fit, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “Jack Harrison did well [against Liverpool].
“But for me, Costa is too hot and cold. You look at him on Monday night and you’re thinking ‘Go on, do something to keep yourself in the side.’
“He’s disappointing. He cuts in with his left foot too much and makes it obvious.
“I’m sure Raphinha will be straight in as soon as he’s fit.”
Raphinha had started 23 consecutive Premier League games before the visit of the Premier League champions on Monday.
The 23-year-old has arguably been Leeds’ player of the season and has six goals and six assists in his 26 appearances this term.
