‘Leeds United could face PSR issue after new paperwork filed’
Leeds United have faced issues complying with the financial rules as they look to secure a return to the Premier League.
The Yorkshire giants were believed to be close to breaching the profit and sustainability rules (PSR) for 2023-24 before selling Archie Gray to Tottenham for £30million.
Under the Premier League’s PSR rules, top-flights clubs are allowed to lose £105million over a rolling three-year period.
But the cap drops from £35million a season in the Premier League to £13million in the Championship, meaning Leeds have been forced to closely monitor their spending.
Leeds have released their latest accounts for 2023-24, revealing their overall turnover fell from £189.7million in 2022-23 to £127.6million.
The club’s losses increased from £33.7million to £60.8million in 2023-24 as they continue to toe the financial fair play (FFP) line.
However, Leeds cut their wage bill significantly from £145.9million to £84million last season.
Finance expert Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider Leeds could face a PSR challenge if they are promoted to the Premier League this season.
Daniel Farke’s side have dropped to third in the Championship table, but they are only two points behind league leaders Burnley and one point off second-place Sheffield United.

Leeds could face PSR challenge without player sales
Borson insisted Leeds are unlikely to have much PSR leeway next season without selling players.
He told Football Insider: “We know they are another one who indicated by their dealings that they carried out just before the year-end that they were going to be okay.
“Otherwise, they would have done different things. We knew they were going to be okay for PSR on compliance.
“I think if they got promoted, they’d be okay, but there’s not a lot of leeway.
“Those clubs in that category are all, without selling players, in a real bind on PSR.
“It’s really easy to breach £105million without quite chunky player sales.
“Of course, you don’t want to make player sales if you just got promoted, so it’s quite challenging.”

Daniel Farke sack update emerges at Leeds
Recruitment expert Mick Brown told Football Insider Leeds will sack Farke if they fail to achieve promotion from the Championship for a second consecutive season.
The German manager came under pressure following last season’s play-off final defeat to Southampton, but the Leeds players remained behind Farke and he was handed a second chance.
The expectation of the board this season is promotion back to the Premier League as they find themselves firmly in the race again.
