Leeds United: Daniel Farke set to hold Brenden Aaronson contract talks

Leeds United want Brenden Aaronson to sign a new contract extension this summer as he approaches the final year of his current deal.

Aaronson has resurrected his Whites career over the last 18 months since returning from a season-long loan spell at Union Berlin.

Many Leeds fans fumed at the USA playmaker for leaving after they were relegated in 2023, but he played a key role in their promotion and has been a regular under Daniel Farke so far this term.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast, his recent turnaround has seen Leeds plan to offer him a new contract this summer.

Leeds’ finances will be impacted by their league position as they aim to avoid relegation, but they want to tie Aaronson down to a longer deal as other Premier League clubs eye his services.

Leeds plan to offer Brenden Aaronson a new contract after World Cup

Aaronson is set to play a key role for the USA in their home World Cup this summer, with Leeds’ contract talks set to take place after the tournament so that he can remain focused on international duties.

Farke has favoured him over several of the Whites’ attackers this season, and is believed to be pushing to tie him down at Elland Road beyond next year.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: “He’s really turned it around, Aaronson at Leeds. Less than 18 months ago, he was getting booed by his own fans and it looked like there was no way back for him.

“He has got his head down, proved himself and really won over their fans. He’s been a key player for Leeds this season.

“He will be key between now and the end of the season in their Premier League survival fight as well. Aaronson is under contract until 2027, so Leeds will be wary of that.

“They will know he’s coming into the final year of his contract, so if they can secure Premier League survival, I’m sure Daniel Farke would want to keep Aaronson.

“Maybe there’ll be the opportunity after the World Cup to try and sit down and have contract talks with the American international, because they won’t want him running it down and potentially leaving on a free transfer.”

Largie Ramazani has no future at Elland Road

While Farke clearly admires Aaronson, the Whites boss has had his differences with Leeds winger Ramazani following his arrival from Almeria in 2024.

He struggled for game time last season behind the USA international, then aimed a sly dig at Farke after joining Valencia on loan last summer as he insisted that he was looking forward to playing under a coach who would give him confidence.

The 25-year-old has scored five goals in 23 games for the La Liga side so far, and sources have told Football Insider that Leeds are ready to accept offers for Ramazani this summer.

He does not have a future at the club beyond this season, regardless of which league they end up in.
