Leeds United: Door starts to open for Swansea’s Zan Vipotnik to make Elland Road switch
Leeds United have an obvious striker target to move on to in Zan Vipotnik as a potential move to sign Patrick Agyemang is plunged into doubt following a new injury blow.
Derby County forward Agyemang has been heavily linked with a move to Elland Road this summer amid uncertainty around Joel Piroe’s future.
The USA international was stretchered off during the Rams’ win over Stoke City on Monday with a serious achilles injury, though, and looks to have been ruled out of a move away from Pride Park ahead of next term.
Instead of Agyemang, the Whites should now start planning to make a move for in-form Swansea City striker Vipotnik after he extended his lead at the top of the Championship scoring charts.
Leeds’ transfer plans are on hold until they know which league they will be playing in next term, but a move for the 24-year-old would be realistic even if they were relegated.

VISIT THE LEEDS TRANSFER HUBZan Vipotnik has outperformed Patrick Agyemang in the Championship
Vipotnik has stepped up to score regularly for Swansea this season after a debut season of adjustment last term that saw him bag seven times in 44 games.
Monday’s brace from the penalty spot against Middlesbrough saw him extend his tally to 22 for this campaign in 44 appearances so far.
| Player | Zan Vipotnik | Patrick Agyemang |
| Minutes | 2652 | 2760 |
| Goals (assists) | 20 (2) | 10 (3) |
| Goals per 90 | 0.68 | 0.33 |
| Chances created | 26 | 29 |
| Big chances missed | 12 | 20 |
| Accurate passes per 90 | 10.9 | 10.7 |
| Possession won in final third per 90 | 0.51 | 0.75 |
The statistics that compare his season to Agyemang’s up to now highlight that the Slovenian would be a better option for Leeds this summer to provide competition to Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Vipotnik is a year younger than the American forward, while sources have told Football Insider that Derby want £20million for Agyemang, so the Swansea man would surely be cheaper too.
With Agyemang’s injury looking pretty serious and his World Cup dream now over, it seems like a pretty obvious move for Leeds to switch their attention to signing a striker who is outperforming him in the same league this season.
What has John Eustace said about Agyemang’s injury?
Agyemang missed the first two months of this term after undergoing hernia surgery, and now will miss the end of the campaign following his latest blow.
He was in tears while being stretchered off to applause from Pride Park on Monday, and while the full extent of his injury is currently unclear, the club have confirmed that he will at least miss the World Cup.
Rams manager Eustace revealed what was set to happen with the 25-year-old after the game, saying: “Pat’s gone off and gone for a scan, so we will have to wait and see.
“We don’t want to see any player going off on a stretcher, and we don’t want to lose our best players, so let’s see how long it will be.”
If Agyemang is out long-term and will not leave this summer, then Leeds should know exactly where to look for an alternative Championship striker target.
