Leeds United employee claims Jesse Marsch making ‘vital’ changes after ‘clear-the-air’ reveal

Noel Whelan has insisted Jesse Marsch is making “vital” changes behind the scenes to help Leeds United “move on” from Marcelo Bielsa’s reign.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the Argentine’s legacy would last “forever” but that the club need to “look forward”.

Speaking to the Athletic (24 March), Marsch heralded the “massive” impact of Marcelo Bielsa prior to his arrival.

However, he revealed he has looked to “open up the environment to more communication” to help “clear the air and move forward” from the Argentine’s reign.

Whelan insisted Marsch has taken the right action to help the Whites progress.

Discussing Marsch’s comments, Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “Communication is vital. The manager won’t be coming in and trying to rip up everything they’ve done for the past three-and-a-half years.

“We’ve been successful over that time, up until the point where it wasn’t quite right. It wasn’t working in the Premier League this year. The change probably was made at the right time.

“This legacy and legendary status Marcelo Bielsa holds with the fans and the football club will never leave. It will be there forever. He’s brought some of the best attacking football we’ve seen for a while.

“He did one of the hardest jobs in getting us out of the Championship to the Premier League. We had the first Premier League season in 18 years where we absolutely took the game to every single team. We were a joy to watch.

“I’m sure Jesse Marsh now realises the job now is a very difficult job. The players, the fans, everyone’s got to stick together on this one.

“He’s our manager and we need to fight like the team have been doing. The fans have been doing their part. It’s not an easy circumstance that we’re in.

“We didn’t want this scrap and little bit of nervousness coming into the end of the season but it’s what we’re in.

“We have got to move on because there’s no point looking back. You look forward, you look to the future.”
