Leeds United employee hails Patrick Bamford 'boost' pre-Wolves as footage emerges
Noel Whelan has insisted Leeds United stars Patrick Bamford and Rodrigo have given themselves an extra confidence “boost” after ending pre-season in the goals.
The former Whites striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed he “couldn’t think” of any players who needed to get among the goals more than the duo.
Bamford, 28, notched a brace and Rodrigo scored a hattrick as Leeds United beat Cagliari 6-2 at Elland Road in the final warm-up match of pre-season on Sunday (31 July).
Bamford looked back to his best after recovering from various injury problems which limited his game time last season.
The England international, who is contracted until June 2026, made just nine league appearances in the 2021-22 campaign – scoring twice.
That total is a stark contrast to his first top-flight season with the Whites when he managed 17 goals in 38 outings.

Whelan insisted Rodrigo and Bamford have given themselves the “platform” to succeed against Wolves on Saturday (6 August).
He told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury: “I said before the Cagliari game that the season really starts now for these players.
“They’ve finished the programmes, they should be at maximum fitness now – and the friendly was all about showing what that hard work has produced as a unit.
“Individually, as well, it’s important to get that extra confidence to take into next week.
“For Bamford and Rodrigo to get that brace and that hattrick – I couldn’t think of any two players who needed that boost more.
“They both had their struggles last season, but now they’ve given themselves a platform to build on going into the Wolves game.”
