Leeds United employee hopeful of 'big' boost after Ben White update

Noel Whelan has admitted Leeds United could receive a “big” boost if Ben White is ruled out for Arsenal this weekend.

The former Leeds striker and club ambassador, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the Whites could capitalise should the 24-year-old miss out.

As confirmed by Mikel Arteta on Friday (6 May), White faces a late fitness test ahead of Sunday’s game after coming back from a muscle injury.

The centre-back missed the Gunners’ 2-1 win over West Ham last weekend.

Whelan admitted White’s fitness would be a “worry” for Arteta and the Gunners.

However, he insisted it would be a “plus” for Leeds heading into Sunday’s game at the Emirates Stadium.

Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “It’ll be a worry. I’m sure he’s got backup there but I know how good a player Ben White is.

“So do Leeds United and the players in the team. A lot of respect for him. He was part of the Championship-winning side, he was fantastic for Leeds United.

“Gutted he didn’t carry on his career with Leeds but he’s been a fantastic signing for Mikel Arteta, there’s no doubt about that.

“The relationship that he’s got with Gabriel at the back has been crucial this year. He will be a big miss for Arsenal but a plus for us.

“We know how good he is, how quick he is, how good in the air and on the ball he is. That’s something that we will hopefully look to capitalise on.”

White has played 36 times for Arsenal since his move from Brighton last summer.

He made 49 appearances during his loan spell at Leeds during the 2019/20 season.
