Leeds United fans can’t believe Ilia Gruev tackle as ‘incredible’ footage emerges

Leeds United fans were mesmerised by Ilia Gruev’s sensational late tackle as memorable Plymouth Argyle win secured

Leeds United fans were in awe of Ilia Gruev’s late challenge in their victory over Plymouth Argyle on Tuesday night (6 February).

The Whites bested their Championship opponents in their FA Cup fourth-round replay against the Pilgrims with a 4-1 win after extra time at Home Park.

Wilfried Gnonto bagged Leeds’ opener in the 66th minute, but a game-changing performance from substitute Crysencio Summerville, who bagged a goal and an assist from the bench, secured their place in the next round.

However, Daniel Farke’s side could have faced an exit from the esteemed competition if Gruev did not put in an “unreal” challenge on Plymouth’s Frederick Issaka in the 94th minute.

Issaka was baring down in goal moments after Joe Gelhardt hit the post with the score at 1-1, but the Bulgarian international sprinted across the park and cleanly challenged him to halt a dangerous counter-attack in its tracks.

Gruev had struggled for minutes in the opening half of the season since his summer arrival at Elland Road, but Farke has handed him starts in their last six games in all competitions.

He has impressed in his impactful displays from midfield, and his sensational performance against Plymouth has had Leeds fans talking.

They have taken to social media to hail his “unreal” late challenge, and many feel he is going from strength to strength after his slow start with the Yorkshire giants.
