Leeds United fans rage at Gnonto incident as ‘shocking’ footage re-analysed
Leeds United fans were fuming with referee Josh Smith against Norwich after Wilfried Gnonto appeared to be brought down in the box.
Just minutes into the playoff semi-final first leg, Gnonto surged into the box where he was chopped down in what looked to be a blatant foul, with the referee waving play on.
Replays showed that the defender came nowhere near the ball and Gnonto, who Football Insider reported has a £30million price tag this summer, had been left in a heap.
Questions were asked about whether the foul took place inside or outside the box, but the call not to give a foul left fans stunned.
A penalty award would have been the difference maker in the 0-0 playoff clash, possibly allowing Leeds to stamp their authority on the tie.

Supporters were left raging at the decision not to award a penalty, or even a foul, as they questioned the “shocking” call, with some insisting the referee had “bottled it”.
Despite the debate over whether the foul was inside the box or not, it did not ease the frustrations of the fans.
