Leeds United fans rage at Junior Firpo for ‘disgraceful’ footage vs Southampton
Leeds United fans have hit out at defender Junior Firpo after “disgraceful” footage emerged from their 2-1 defeat to Southampton on Saturday (4 May).
The Yorkshire side have missed out on automatic promotion to the Premier League after suffering defeat to the Saints on the final matchday of the Championship season.
Daniel Farke’s side kicked off at Elland Road knowing the only route to second place was to beat Southampton and for Ipswich Town to lose to Huddersfield.
However, Leeds failed to pick up three points with Adam Armstrong and Will Smallbone securing the win for the visitors with goals in the first half.
Leeds fans were particularly annoyed at Firpo for his role in Smallbone’s goal after he appeared to give up chasing the ball as it headed out of play.
However, the ball was rescued by Kyle Walker-Peters who was then able to set up Smallbone for the winning goal.
Leeds supporters on social media were fuming at Firpo, with some calling the 28-year-old “useless” while others want to see him sold this summer.
Leeds will now turn their attention towards the Championship play-offs after missing out on automatic promotion.
Farke’s side will face sixth-placed Norwich City in the semi-finals with the first leg scheduled to be played next Sunday (12 May).
