
Leeds United fans rage at ‘shocking’ penalty controversy against Plymouth
Leeds United supporters on social media were angry after they were denied a late penalty during their 2-0 win over Plymouth Argyle on Saturday afternoon (17 February).
The Yorkshire club continued their fine form with a comfortable win at Home Park to remain in the automatic promotion spots in the Championship.
Daniel Farke’s side have now won eight consecutive league games and have closed the gap to league leaders Leicester City to nine points.
Wilfried Gnonto opened the scoring after just 10 minutes to mark his fourth goal in four league games for the Whites.
Georginio Rutter doubled the lead with a superb finish in the second half to secure Leeds’ 21st league win of the season.
The visitors pushed for a third goal late into the match and believed they should have been awarded a penalty after substitute Dan James went to ground in injury time.
However, referee Matthew Donohue waved away the penalty appeals and bizarrely awarded Leeds a free-kick just outside of the box.

Leeds fans on social media were left angered after their penalty appeals were rejected, with some accusing the English Football League of being corrupt.
Leeds return to action on Friday (23 February) with a top-of-the-league clash against Leicester City at Elland Road.
