Leeds tipped for Gustavo Hamer move as ‘transfer saga’ beckons
Leeds United have been tipped to sign Sheffield United midfielder Gustavo Hamer as Daniel Farke strives to ready his squad for the Premier League.
The former Coventry City man enjoyed an outstanding Championship campaign for the Blades, notching nine goals and seven assists.
However, his efforts were not enough to guide Chris Wilder’s men back to the Premier League, as the South Yorkshire club were beaten in the playoff final by Sunderland.
On the other hand, Leeds won the Championship title and must now bolster their ranks as they strive to survive in the top flight next term.

Leeds tipped to strengthen midfield as fresh Hamer claim emerges
Hamer has attracted interest from Leeds and Everton, and the Blades may struggle to retain his services after failing to win promotion.
Meanwhile, speaking on the latest episode of the Yorkshire Evening Post’s Inside Elland Road podcast, [5 June], Chief Football Writer Graham Smyth asked Leeds United journalist Joe Donnohue: “You want a big body 10. Is Gustavo Hamer’s body big enough for you, or are you looking for a bigger body? What’s the situation there?”
Donnohue replied: “I think he’s stocky enough to stand up to Premier League defences and a more intense press.
“He was in a really bad Sheffield United team two seasons ago. His numbers suggest he was consistent enough, four goals, six or seven assists.
“I think in the right team, the right system, with the right players around him, I think he can be good. I think it’s one which has the potential to be Leeds’ transfer saga of the summer.”
Although Wilder’s men ultimately failed to win promotion, Hamer proved his ability to perform under pressure in the playoffs, as he scored in the semi-final second leg against Bristol City before making an assist in the Wembley defeat to Sunderland.”

Hamer could be an asset for Leeds next season
Farke’s ultimate aim this summer is to sign players who can help the Elland Road club bridge the ever-widening gap between the Championship and the Premier League.

Appearances | 36 |
Goals | 4 |
Assists | 6 |
Therefore, some Leeds supporters could be sceptical about the idea of signing Hamer, who suffered relegation to the second tier with Sheffield United before the Blades failed to seal a top-flight return.
However, the 27-year-old was able to score four goals and create six assists in the Premier League back in 2023/24, even though the South Yorkshire club ultimately finished 16 points adrift of safety that term, winning just three league games.
Hamer then proved his versatility this term by often playing in a previously unfamiliar left-wing role to accommodate fellow attacking midfielder Callum O’Hare.
The argument could be made that, should Leeds invest well in other areas of the field, the ex-Coventry man should be able to produce the goods in the Premier League.
