Reliable Leeds journalist delivers Twitter update on fitness of Pontus Jansson
By Russell Edge
Leeds United star Pontus Jansson only suffered bruising to his arm after being stretchered off in the club’s defeat to Sheffield Wednesday, according to a reliable journalist.
Phil Hay of the Yorkshire Evening Post responded to a question on his personal Twitter account, asked by a supporter, about the Swedish international’s injury situation
He stated that the 26-year-old had suffered nothing more serious than bruising, despite having been forced to withdraw from his country’s crucial world cup qualifiers over the international break.
Jansson was forced off in the 3-0 defeat to the Owls after a hefty collision with team mate Kalvin Phillips, which compounded a truly disappointing day for Thomas Christiansen and his side.
The Swedish centre back has been a crucial part of the Whites’ squad since arriving from Torino on an initial loan deal last summer, with 45 appearances for the club so far.
This season has seen him retain his place in the starting XI despite a change of manager over the summer, with Christiansen having handed him nine starts this season, all coming in the Championship.
The boss will be hoping to have the 13-time-capped international available for the club’s clash against Reading on Saturday, as he also welcomes back Jansson’s defensive partner and club captain Liam Cooper after serving a one match suspension.
In other Leeds United news, the club’s hopes of signing an international midfielder are hanging by a thread after a top flight side’s interest.
