Leeds United have completed new signing ‘who won’t play 10 games’

Leeds United’s new signing Joshua Guilavogui is not expected to make much of an impact during his time at Elland Road.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former Leeds goalkeeper Paul Robinson, who remains very well-connected at the club, insisted that he does not expect the midfielder to even play ten games for the club.

Guilavogui, 34, was brought in on a free transfer to help provide cover after Ethan Ampadu and Ilia Gruev picked up serious injuries.

Neither player is expected to return to the Leeds XI until January at the earliest, leaving Joe Rothwell and Ao Tanaka as the covering players.

However, behind the backup pairing, Daniel Farke was left with very few options to fill space in midfield, leading to the Frenchman’s arrival.

His role in the squad will be to provide further backup in case of any injuries, but Robinson has claimed he is unlikely to feature as a staple of the XI.

Instead, he will provide a rotational option until the injured midfield duo return, at which time he will fall even further down the pecking order.

Robinson, however, highlighted the benefits of his experience and know-how which he will bring to the Leeds squad both on and off the pitch.

I think he’s just been brought in as cover,” he told Football Insider.

“He’s 34 years old, a defensive midfielder, and that’s the position they’re struggling in.

“With Ampadu and Gruev both out until January at least, it’s an area they need cover in.

“He’s got a really good CV, he’s got seven caps for France, but I don’t see him as a player who’s going to come in and make a big impact.

“Farke has been stringent with the way he plays with two holding midfield players and that shows he’s not going to go away from that formation.

“He’s only there if Tanaka or Rothwell get injured. I thought they were excellent against Sheffield United.

“But I really don’t expect Guilavogui to make much of an impact.

“I’d be surprised, very surprised, if he even totalled double figures in games.”
