Leeds United in line for £12m windfall as new document emerges – Keith Wyness

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed Leeds United will bank an extra £12million in revenue per season once their Elland Road redevelopment is complete.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – admitted the Whites will lose out on money while construction is ongoing.

Leeds announced in an official document their next steps in plans to enhance their famous Elland Road stadium last week (23 September).

The headline was the commitment to “modernise and improve stadium capacity from 37,645 to around 53,000 seats”, with plans also in place to “maintain and enhance the unique atmosphere”.

Leeds currently have around 26,000 fans on a waiting list to secure season tickets, with every home league game for six years being played in front of a capacity crowd.

Leeds new stadium plans will rake in up to ‘£600k per game’, says Wyness

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “It’s going to take time, and planning will need to be approved.

“I understand the council are very favourable towards this because it’s not a new stadium build.

“What it would mean revenue-wise, is an uplift of around £500-600k per game.

“Over the season, it’s about £10-12million. That makes a lot of difference.

“Part of the problem they’ll have is doing things as Liverpool did, building the new seats while games are going on.

“There will be a loss of revenue for that time while construction goes on.

Leeds

“I’d love to see Leeds with a proper stadium, they are a big club with a big waiting list.

“They need to get this done, so we’ll see how long the process is going to take.”
