Kieran Maguire hails 'huge' news from Leeds as 49ers ready to make fans dreams come true at Elland Road

The San Franciso 49ers may be ready to invest more money into Leeds United and finance the redevelopment of Elland Road.

So says finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the American football team’s latest equity purchase at Leeds.

The club confirmed on 5 November that 49ers Enterprises had bought another seven per cent to take their total stake in the club to 44 per cent.

Majority shareholder Andrea Radrizzani, who owns the remaining 56 per cent, has spoken freely about plans to expand Elland Road.

The West Yorkshire stadium’s capacity is currently capped at close to 38,000 and the plan is to boost that figure to 55,000, as per Sky Sports back in June.

And Maguire predicts that fresh investment from the 49ers could be the catalyst for the development to begin.

“Apart from it being huge for the fans, who have waited long time for this, it would also bring in more matchday revenue for their third income stream,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.

“The way for Leeds United to boost their profitability is to look at their three income streams.

“Given that they have had a successful first season in the Premier League, there are a couple of areas they can improve.

“Broadcast income is outside the control of individual clubs. So they can’t be much movement there.

“From a commercial point of view, a bigger Elland Road is a more attractive proposition to commercial partners.

“The 49ers might be looking at a return on their investment there. They would be willing to put more money in on the back of that.
