Leeds United lose out financially as new deal agreed – Keith Wyness
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted Leeds United’s new Adidas deal will be worth less as they are still in the Championship.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed the value comes down to “the number of eyeballs” despite encouraging kit sales at Elland Road.
Leeds confirmed on 30 October that they have now agreed an extension to their partnership with German manufacturer Adidas.
The Whites agreed an initial five-year deal with Adidas ahead of their first season back in the Premier League in 2020 – but have since been relegated.
That deal was worth £10million per season – a record-breaking agreement for the Whites.
Daniel Farke’s side currently sit in the automatic promotion places in the Championship after suffering a play-off final defeat in May.
Leeds United’s new Adidas deal will be worth less, says Wyness
Wyness claimed the new deal will be worth less to Leeds while they remain in the second tier.
He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “Of course, it will be worth less – there’s no doubt.
“It comes down to the number of eyeballs.
“Although their kits are selling well, 15,000 for the third kit – which is a big number, the Premier League is what these kit manufacturers want.
“With Adidas, it’s going to come down to reaching the level of viewership and sales for Leeds.

“But they’re a big club and sitting in those promotion spots again.
“Adidas will see them as an up-and-comer, but they’ll be keeping their options open.”
