Leeds United news: Agbonlahor issues ominous relegation verdict as ‘contract’ claim shared
Gabby Agbonlahor has tipped Leeds United or Everton to be relegated from the Premier League this season.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker claimed Burnley will survive because they know their wages will be halved if they are playing Championship football next season.
Leeds were held to a 0-0 draw by Crystal Palace on Monday night (25 April) to leave them five points ahead of Everton who occupy the final relegation place.
Burnley are two points clear of the Toffees who have a game in hand over both clubs.
“Leeds United are not out of it at all,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“When it comes to crunch times like now teams pull results out of the bag. It wouldn’t surprise me if Everton go and beat Chelsea and Burnley win again at the weekend.
“When you’re fighting for your life this is when you get results. Burnley will fight until the last game.
“They will be one of the lowest-paid squads in the league. If their average player is on £30,000-a-week, £40,000-a-week, their contracts will definitely have relegation clauses in so the majority of them will half. They might go down to £20,000-a-week which is a big hit when you’re used to Premier League wages.
“It’s different to other teams like Everton who might be on £80,000-a-week, £90,000-a-week with no relegation clause.
“It’s going to hurt Burnley players more and they will be fighting for their lives.
“If I’m a betting man I’ve got to be betting on Burnley to stay up. I don’t know who will go down.

“For Burnley to get two results like they have, including against a very good Wolves side, I feel they can stay up. That game looked like one team was fighting for their lives one wasn’t.
“You might not be the better team but if you want it more, you will win.”
