Get Rid - Pundit Exclusive: Leeds 'Can Do Better' than £40K-a-wk star

Leeds United can “do better” than goalkeeper Kiko Casilla and with transfer rumours swirling now might be time for the Spaniard to move on.

That is according to Darren Bent, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after the 34-year-old shot-stopper’s recent mini-run of games in the side ahead of Illan Meslier.

Casilla has started Leeds’ last two matches, a 3-0 disaster in the FA Cup against Crawley Town and a 1-0 defeat to Brighton in the Premier League, the latter being Casilla’s first start in the league this season.

And Leeds are one of a number of clubs interested in 26-year-old Queens Park Ranger goalkeeper Seny Dieng, who could be a potential replacement for under-fire Casilla, according to The Sun.

Bent believes that the former Real Madrid man could be on his way out of Elland Road in the near future.

He says Leeds would be better off looking elsewhere for a second-choice goalkeeper.

Asked whether he thought Casilla had played his last game for Leeds, he told Football Insider: “Maybe, because Meslier has done so well. For someone so young, I know there’s times that he’s wobbled, but tell me a goalkeeper that hasn’t wobbled at that age.

“He’s so young and it takes a while to find your feet. Overall, I think he’s been very good.

“I think Kiko is good backup. but I can’t really see him sitting there and not playing. He’s had a season to forget and he’s had a lot going on in the last year with the whole racism row.

“I think Leeds could do better than him, potentially get someone else in who’s a bit younger.”

Casilla has been a Leeds player since January 2019, joining from Real Madrid after winning three Champions Leagues and one La Liga title as backup for Keylor Navas at the Bernabeu.

As previously revealed by Football Insider, the Spaniard is on a £40,000-a-week wage at Elland Road.

In other news, Leeds United have been offered the chance to sign a Ligue 1 striker who is reportedly quicker than Kylian Mbappe.
